Staffordshire's 800th Anniversary Cake

When the Queen visited Stafford in April 2006 to mark the anniversary of the 1206 charter granted by King John that made Stafford a free borough, a special cake was required to celebrate the occasion. Amerton Bakery created a huge ‘800’ cake incorporating the Stafford Knot and adorned with over 100 sugarpaste flowers.

The cake took seven people over 80 hours to complete and weighed in at over four stone! Royal officials were suitably impressed, particularly with the realistic-looking sugar flowers.
